What Does Your Couples Pose Say About You?

Patti shares her insights on "What Does Your Couples Pose Say About You?" for Elite Daily.

It’s super common for couples to hold hands in photos. Wood, who has been studying handholding and other forms of touch for well over 20 years, says it can reveal a lot about the power dynamic in a relationship, as well as demonstrate a certain kind of tenderness. She also says the placement of the hands can indicate which person is in control — or wants to be.
“There’s just a wealth of information in a handhold,” she says. “Typically, it reveals something about connection and control. If a couple chooses to hold hands, at least one member of the couple wants to be seen as a unit. Look for certain qualities of interconnectedness between the hands, and whose hand is on top and whose is on the bottom.”

Another popular pose is for one partner to place their hand on the other’s chest or stomach. Wood explains that this may be just a practical way for the shorter partner to stay physically connected and express affection. But she notes that it can also sometimes be a way of saying “they’re mine” because the hand forms a barrier between the partner and other people. In order to distinguish between the two possibilities, Wood often looks for subtleties in the hand. For example, a relaxed, loosely cupped hand on the chest is less likely to suggest possessiveness than a hand that’s pressed down tightly for more control.
But what about the hand on the lower back? Experts agree that can mean multiple things as well.
“It can be very chivalrous or it can have a negative connotation depending on the context of the situation,” says Traci Brown.
Wood concurs, noting that it can show one partner’s desire to help and guide the other.
“The thing to look at is — how easy is it for the person to get out of their position? That tells you a lot about the power balance.”
Wood points out that it’s a lot easier to step backwards and forward with a hand on your lower back than it is with a hand on your upper back, which may indicate a message of ownership or control.

Body Language Read of Rob Pattinson and Kristen at OTR After Party

First Video,

He faces her and takes the crook of his arm and locks it around Kristen’s head in an ownership gesture. It is playful and brief. This gesture is typically done when standing to the side of a women when in the presence of others as a show of ownership, "She is with me.” In this case he does it standing facing her so it is to prove to himself that she is his. His smile and head shaking and playful touches indicate he can’t believe she is his. Her posture in response is a slightly hunched over she doesn’t touch back nor does she linger. At first she does not “respond it kind” to his advances. She is more shy.

Later when he makes that ummm sound as he hugs her she does a comfort cue, putting her hand to her mouth and leaving it there as he tries to get intimate indicating she is not comfortable with his caresses. But when she sees him finally back up she changes. I think that when he backed up she felt that absence of his advance and  she reaches up and puts her hand around his neck so he comes closer.

At the beginning even when she tilts her head up to talk to him she doesn’t hold her hands up or touch him as she does to pull him closer to her.  She rests her head ever so briefly.

If you watch the tape several times you can see the dance of the relationship is him cornering her and moving closer and her moving back.  His odd shaking side to side is in part his frustration that she is not moving towards her. Again he is playful but she is not fully playing back in kind.

Do They Look In Love? What Does Their Body Language Reveal?

Patti weighed in on Bachelor Ben and his "fiance" Courtney's body language as they were eating dinner with Ben's sister and her boyfriend for Hollywoodlife.com. Read her insights below! Also, read the full article in Hollywoodlife.com at the link below.

Patti's insights:
Courtney is “sheltering” with her head tilted toward and shoulder closest too him down toward him. That shows she feels he can protect her. The fingers on his hand that’s around her shoulder are nicely relaxed and spread and his thumb is actually resting up and her shoulder in a protective hold. I see loving care between them.

What Does Nick Gordon's Body Language Reveal About His Relationship With Bobbi Kristina?

Hollywoodlife asked Patti to weigh in on the body language of Nick Gordon with regard to his relationship with Bobbi Kristina. Read her insights below and check the link to view the video.

http://www.hollywoodlife.com/2012/03/15/nicholas-gordon-bobbi-kristina-brown-relationship-marriage/

He actually stood up very well to that aggressive attempt at an interview. I was impressed with him today. I specifically liked it when he was asked a question about how Bobbi was doing his entire demeanor changed. He looked back and connected with the reporter, his body language was relaxed and his paralanguage (voice) slowed down and became real and warm as he said, “She is doing very well she is standing strong.” He also authentically emphasized the word VERY. His nonverbal response to that statement indicates he truly cares about Bobbi and he is willing to stand up to the media who might question how stable and well she is doing. That was genuine.

Regarding all the strong “No comment” responses to the questions about the relationship his avoidance turning away continuing what he was doing, the strident tone and the quick grimace indicate there is perhaps a romantic relationship. If you are innocent of a claim or if you agree with a question, you are likely to make a strong statement. The “no comment” rather than “We are family and I love and support her as a brother.”

Their body language together today shows only a bit more commitment on his part. Specifically notice how he doesn’t OPEN UP his hand and take her hand in his and lift it up. She again is the initiator and wants to be seen as a couple.

You use to be able to hold hands with friends and siblings, but in the last 10 years we identify hand holding as a signal of romantic and sexual interest.

Bobbi Kristina and Nick Gordon’s Body Language. Are They a Couple?

Are they a couple? Patti shared her insights on their body language with Hollywoodlife recently. Read Patti's insights below, watch the video and see if you agree!

She wants them to be a couple and wants his support. She reaches out quickly and with neediness three times in those few movements to hold hands with him. If she felt secure with him she would be more likely to reach out her hand slowly knowing that he would meet her hand half way. Instead she quickly grasps. In the one instance when they are crossing the street he briefly rebuffs her attempt to hold hands then gives in. The neediness is also shown in both videos and she has to move quickly, in a scuttle motion in one case, to keep up with him. And he is not slowing down for her. Though I like that he reaches out briefly to put his arm around her, he doesn’t fully comfort by wrapping the arm around her and leaving it there. He instead gives a reach to hold but doesn’t follow through removes his arm quickly.

Royal Couple.... "Picture Perfect Romance"

I was quoted in the Brantford Expositor and the Belleville Intelligencer on the body language of the Royal Couple, William and Kate.

BAD ROMANCE? No way! Pictures speak louder than words, and when it comes to the royal couple, it's a picture-perfect romance with relationship success signals loud and clear. Prince William and his bride-to-be Kate Middleton are a tight twosome who'll be living happily ever after -well, at least they're off to a great start, according to body language expert Patti Wood. Visual hints show their love is deep -William and Kate share a deep respect and admiration for one another, says Wood. "They look at each other often -and not for approval as Diana often did when she first was engaged to Charles, but with respect and affection," says Wood. There's also the look of confidence, says Wood, of http://www.pattiwood.net/."Kate watches him closely when he is talking; she does stand back slightly to show her place but she doesn't bow down her head in submission or lack of confidence as you used to see Diana do in Charles' presence." It's a relationship of equals. According to Wood, Kate keeps her head and chin on "the midline for the throat window, which shows once again her confidence and ease in the high stress media moments." Wood often analyzes celebrity body language and provides fun feedback, including the lies and telltale truths, for major celebrity and women's publications. "One single moment can be very revealing and can predict so many things going on in the relationship at that time," says Wood. "It's the little things couples do that reveal how they really feel because we can't consciously control those actions." Optics don't lie! William and Kate are in sync and the connection is mutual, says Wood. "In photos you often see them taking on mirrored body language poses of each other. That frequent matching and mirroring shows they are in sync."

Royal Wedding - Body Language of the Royal Couple, Past and Present

I was interview by Gulf News recently on the body language of the Royal Couple, William and Kate as the date for the Royal Wedding approaches. Below are some of my insights on the Royal Couple's relationship and a look back at Charles and Diana's nonverbal cues.

Blue Dress
Look how casually she links her arm through his. Her body and bearing is upright. This shows her desire to be prim and proper. His hands are folded over his pelvis in what is called the “fig leaf” position and she is standing with her feet pressed together these are the male and female signals of sexual protection. I read this as an indication that they want to keep that part of their relationship private and protected from public scrutiny.

Diana has her arms folded over her heart and her mouth is tense and flattened showing her unhappiness and need to cover her heart and protect it from Charles. His hand is pushing her down symbolically putting her in her place.

I love the photo where William is cradling Kate to him with the front of her body moving into him. I like that his arms bring her close but do so gently. I love how relaxed and rounded their bodies are. Their smiles are very tender. Notice the pouching under their eyes. There is even a very healthy glow on their skin that shows their attraction to each other. Wonderful warm and real connection and affection in this mutual hold.
