Great Series on
Netflix, “The Heavy Water Wars”
This is a great new series on Netflix with a full six episode arch. Great script, well-acted and very informative. I love the speech at the beginning of this short video and being the World War II buff that I am I am surprised I didn’t know anything about this sabotage operation. I am particular fascinated with the German researchers fight to build the Atom Bomb.
I couldn’t get
over how he rationalized his research as pure science no matter what the
ultimate result of his research would be. Watch his body language as he
discusses the research and compare it to mathematician
Alan Turing’s discussion of his code breaking research (performed by Benedict
Cumberbatch) in The Imitation Game. Knowing what we ultimately did with the atom
bomb, makes you examine what makes one researcher the good guy and another the
bad guy.
The Heavy Water War (original title Kampen om
tungtvannet and alternative title The Saboteurs(UK)) is a six-episode TV miniseries produced
by the Norwegian
Broadcasting Corporation.[1] It is a Norwegian/Danish/British co-production,
directed by Per-Olav Sørensen that tells the story about the German nuclear weapon project and the heavy water sabotage in Norway to disturb it
during the Second World War, with a particular emphasis on the role of Leif Tronstad.[2][3]
