Body Language in " A Life" The New Biography of Mike Nichols

I love to climb inside somebody else’s life.
" A Life" The Biography of Mike Nichols was a fantastic and fascinating read about a creative genius. I loved that he was a Director who not only he no only understood the importance of body language but used it to make his movies. He used the actors, stage moves, (business) in incredibly intimate, real, sad, and funny.

Representative Sawyer Hackett curtsies and votes with a thumbs down against the $15 dollar wage.

Big body language controversy yesterday. Representative Semira made a big show of coming down and giving an overly dramatic curtsy and thumbs down (looking like a petulant child) to an increase of the minimum wage.
Two things of note 1st of all she said she was for this increase before she was elected so this is a big change for her.
Second, when she was criticized for this original dramatic curtsy and thumbs down she said that it was anti-feminist to criticize her for something feminine.
So the media asked me to discuss it and guess what it’s not anti-feminist to call someone on childlike behavior

Here are my rough body language notes that I gave in my interviews with the media about Meghan and Harry.

Meghan goes through every emotion in this interview, starts nervous and giggling, she gets angry, she is poised calm, and confident, she cries, she gets mad some more than she ends happy serene and at peace.

There are so many revealing tells.

1.    Meghan’s feelings about the Queen

7:16   When I look at interviews, I always pay very close attention to the cues that are given when someone is hearing a topic or person for the first time in the interview before they think about how they want to look. So when Oprah introduces the discussion of the Queen/Grandmother/matriarch

Meghan has the complex negative vocal and gesture cluster, first, you hear Meghan in a slightly grow; her response “um her” and then says, “She was one of the first people I met” then she looks down grimaces and does a tongue thrust.”  Though Meghan later goes on in the interview to share lovely stories about the Queen and her relationship with her, these cues revealed her underlying feelings.

2. Baby Bump

***19:49 Baby Bump

The way she holds her baby bump compared to Kate

Her spontaneous anger as she says, What does that have to do with pride or vanity” We need to hear her voice because it’s the way she strikes down hard on Pride or Vanity with her paralanguage that is revealing.

3.

**44:12When Meghan is asked who had the conversation with you?” about what color Archies skin would be.

You see Meghan give a “seat adjustment” she rises out of her seat subconsciously wants to get out of her seat and runaway and we know why because she wants to run away because this look of pure fear comes over her the face I would love a freeze-frame of the fear on her face, because in that moment I was afraid for her.

4.

***1:44:46  They as a couple form a heart with their bodies and at the center of the heart they are holding hands. And I want to describe that their legs are crossed towards each other, body windows, belly heart throat are towards each other.

So here are extra ideas and topics in order.

Harry Shows His Need to Stay Guarded During he and Meghan's Interview with Oprah. Body Language Expert Patti Wood

In this photo of Meghan and Harry listening to Oprah intensely

Here Harry is very protective of himself. Starting with the feet that are oddly crossed over at the ankles to protect his real feelings and an effort to stay grounded under stress is shown with one foot planted and the bottom of one-foot pointed away and upraised showing part of him wants to run away. I also see that he is doing a loose holding of his own hand and is a bit collapsed down in his chair and overall looking like a much younger man or body under stress.  This was an incredibly stressful interview and overall he was so calm and supportive of Meghan. And Meghan always gives him such focused eye contact when he is speaking.

Body Language Insights of Harry and Meghan During the Oprah Interview, Harry is protective, Body Language Expert Patti Wood

What I noticed overall during the broadcast is how Harry focused his eye contact on Oprah. He really listened as was sure and careful of his answers. Here we see how his legs are crossed high at the knee in the European male leg cross manner towards Oprah, in a way that includes Meghan as a partner with him and protects himself and her from outside scrutiny. But he also shields himself from Oprah with the way he forms a “castle wall protection” with these interlaced hands and his full forearm and elbows resting on the chair arm for further protection. And look at the sad distance look on his face. This may have been during the line of questioning about his family when he showed the most sadness during the interview.
